Even the simple brake pad gets a thorough investigation. That’s what makes the Zipp Platinum Pro Evo Brake Pads so special.

This is a new design for Zipp. Same pad compound as the previous Platinumgrey carbon-specific materialbut the shape has been changed. And it has been changed for the better.

The pad’s surface area has been increased by 10% despite the fact it fits in the same brake shoes as before. The thickness has been reduced by 1% to better work with Zipp’s wide rim designs and integrated brakes. Because the radial height has been increased (this is how they get to increased surface area), the pad actually lasts longer than the earlier iteration. And they redesigned the grooves in the pad, yes, the grooves to better remove water from the rim in wet weather braking and channel air over the rim to better cool it in dry conditions.

As with all carbon-specific brake pads, these have not been approved for use with aluminum rims.
